66.5% of the land in Utah is owned by the federal government, that’s two thirds of the state. Utah is second only to Nevada’s 81%. There are some groups, such as Ken Ivory’s American Lands Council organization, and a delegation from Utah’s congress who believe that Utah should take back all of that land from the Feds. To do that, Utah would have to spend Millions of taxpayer dollars in litigation with Washington. And some say that state control would lead to too much development and environmental destruction.
On this month’s episode of “What Do You Think, Utah?” we are going to be discussing this issue in an episode we’re calling Give Us Back Our Land; Throwing The Feds Out Of Utah. Our guests will be the former National Director of the Bureau of Land Management, Patrick Shea. State Representative, and member of the Commission for the Stewardship of Public Lands, Mike Noel. Attorney Bruce Baird, political consultant Dave Owen, and the discussion will be moderated by Bill Allred from X96.
Audience questions and comments are a huge part of the show, so please attend. Admission is free, food and drinks will be available for purchase. Doors open at the 50 West Club and Cafe at 6:00pm and the show goes from 7:00pm – 8:00pm on Wednesday, Sept 23rd.
